12. Δημιουργήστε κίνητρα για μάθηση – (Οι εκπαιδευτικοί μπορούν να βοηθήσουν τους μαθητές να αποκτήσουν περισσότερα κίνητρα για μάθηση με το παράδειγμά τους και τις δηλώσεις που κάνουν.)
Αποτελέσματα ερευνών
Μαθητές με κίνητρα είναι εύκολο να αναγνωριστούν επειδή έχουν ένα πάθος για την επίτευξη των στόχων τους και είναι έτοιμοι να καταβάλλουν μεγάλες προσπάθειες. Δείχνουν, επίσης, σημαντική αποφασιστικότητα και επιμονή. Αυτό επηρεάζει την ποσότητα και την ποιότητα των όσων μαθαίνουν. Όλοι οι εκπαιδευτικοί θέλουν να έχουν μαθητές με κίνητρα στις τάξεις τους. Πώς μπορούν να το πετύχουν αυτό;
Οι ψυχολόγοι διακρίνουν δύο είδη παροχής κινήτρων: τα εξωγενή κίνητρα και τα εσωτερικά κίνητρα. Εξωγενή κίνητρα είναι οι θετικές ενισχύσεις για να αυξήσει ο μαθητής την πιθανότητα επίτευξης ενός στόχου. Έπαινος, υψηλή βαθμολογία, βραβεία, τα χρήματα και τα τρόφιμα μπορούν να χρησιμοποιηθούν για το σκοπό αυτό. Εσωτερικά κίνητρα είναι όταν οι μαθητές συμμετέχουν ενεργά σε δραστηριότητες, χωρίς να χρειάζεται να επιβραβευθούν γι ‘αυτό.
Ένα σημαντικό χαρακτηριστικό των μαθητών με εσωτερικά κίνητρα για μάθηση είναι η πεποίθησή τους ότι η προσπάθεια είναι σημαντική για την επιτυχία. Οι εκπαιδευτικοί μπορούν να επηρεάσουν την αποφασιστικότητα των μαθητών για επίτευξη στόχων με το παράδειγμά τους κι εδώ καθώς και με τις δηλώσεις που κάνουν.
Στην τάξη
Οι εκπαιδευτικοί πρέπει να χρησιμοποιούν ενθαρρυντικά σχόλια που αντανακλούν μια έντιμη αξιολόγηση της απόδοσης των μαθητών:
- Αναγνωρίστε τις επιτυχίες των μαθητών.
- Βοηθήστε τους μαθητές να πιστέψουν στον εαυτό τους (π.χ. «καταβάλλεις πολλή προσπάθεια στα μαθηματικά και οι βαθμοί σου έχουν βελτιωθεί κατά πολύ»).
- Παρέχετε σχόλια στα παιδιά σχετικά με τις στρατηγικές που χρησιμοποιούν και δίνετε οδηγίες για το πώς να τις βελτιώσουν.
- Βοηθήστε τους μαθητές να θέτουν ρεαλιστικούς στόχους.
- Αποφεύγετε την ομαδοποίηση των μαθητών ανάλογα με τις ικανότητές τους. Η ομαδοποίηση αυτή δίνει το μήνυμα ότι η ικανότητα αποτιμάται περισσότερο από την προσπάθεια.
- Προωθήστε την συνεργασία και όχι τον ανταγωνισμό. Η έρευνα δείχνει ότι οι ανταγωνιστικές μέθοδοι ενθαρρύνουν τους μαθητές να δουλεύουν μεμονωμένα για να πετύχουν μεγαλύτερη βαθμολογία και περισσότερες ανταμοιβές, συνήθως δίνουν το μήνυμα ότι αυτό που έχει αξία είναι η ικανότητα και μειώνουν την εσωτερική προσπάθεια.

Το παραπάνω άρθρο αποτελεί διασκευή και μετάφραση της εισήγησης της Στέλλας Βοσνιάδου, καθηγήτριας του Πανεπιστημίου Αθηνών, στο International Academy of Education (IAE). Θεώρησα ότι με τη μετάφραση αυτή και με τη διασκευή κάποιων άρθρων, όλοι μας θα ωφεληθούμε και θα μάθουμε κάτι παραπάνω.
